POSITION TITLE: Unpaid Intern

DEPARTMENT: Various, but mostly Promotions. We also have an internship available in our News Department!

REPORTS TO: Human Resources, Internship Coordinator/Sales Asst.


PREREQUISITES:

College students applying for an internship must be able to receive credit from their college or university for this unpaid internship. After being hired, and before they can begin working, students must provide a letter on their college or university’s letterhead stating that they will receive credit for this internship.

ESSENTIAL INTERNSHIP FUNCTIONS:

  • Assisting Advertising Manager in preparing media kits for distribution to potential advertisers;
  • Preparing multimedia presentations to potential advertisers using Arbitron, Radio Advertising Bureau and Scarborough information.
  • Utilizing internet and standard resources to develop and qualify potential advertisers
  • Assist the Advertising Manager with budgeting and tracking of sales and projections
  • Accompanying advertising account executives on client presentations when available
  • Implementing nontraditional advertising programs as available
  • Assisting Sales Account Executives with preparation of media one-pieces (layout/design/general ideas) and proposals for advertisers;
  • Assisting Marketing Acct. Exec. With various ratings reports, compiled from a program called "Maximizer." They will learn how radio ratings work, and why they are so important to every radio station. And, Mapmaker;
  • Assisting Promotions Director and Promotions Department employees in all aspects of promotions department, which may include: attending station events (non-alcohol events); interacting with public; entering listener information in station database; sending e-mails to listeners; creating winner sheets for use by deejays for on-air contests; compiling winner information, and filing appropriately; making runs to various stores to choose promotional items for use at on-site events; maintaining station prize closet; maintaining inventory in station van for on-site events; securing prizes; creating contest entry forms, etc.; carrying equipment, providing support to talent & staff; assisting promotions coordinator in contest fulfillment, mailings, and correspondence; maintaining van & station banners
  • Assisting Sales Asst. with daily faxing of commercial times to advertisers;
  • Assisting Program Director with filing of new cds; assisting Music Director with preparation of station play list for distribution to record companies, etc.;
  • Assisting Traffic Dept. with logging of commercials;
  • Assisting Production Dept. with recording of commercials; possible voice overs, or sound effects. Obtaining music from stores or on-line for use in commercial or promotion production;
  • Assisting Continuity Coordinator in writing of commercial copy for advertiser approval.;
  • Assisting on-air jocks with preparation of traffic reports and filling out winner sheets for on-air giveaways
